Merino wool, its unique properties.

The unique advantages come from the fact that Merino sheep live in extreme climatic conditions.
Large temperature fluctuations, +30°C in summer in the scorching sun, down to -30°C in winter and strong wind, resulting in a plump, abundant fleece.
Dense, delicate and thin, it provides excellent thermal insulation against heat and severe frost.
The thickness of the fibers ranges from 13 to 24 microns, which may be even thinner than the fiber of a Cashmere goat.
It is three times thinner than a human hair (70 microns thick). Thin and corrugated hairs ensure good thermal insulation, the more fibers in a certain volume of the fleece, the more air spaces between the fibers and the better thermal insulation. This is a unique property thanks to which clothing does not have to be thick to insulate well.
Even very thin, it fulfills its functions. It is very flexible, which means that when stretched, it will return to its original form.

Good thermal insulation occurs when clothing helps maintain a constant, optimal body temperature.
Protects against cold and heat.

Due to the fact that the hair is very thin and elastic, the wool does not scratch.
Therefore, it is perfect for clothes that come into direct contact with the skin, such as : : hats, scarves and gloves, socks, sweaters, T-shirts and thermal underwear.
The wool fiber is covered with scales and is gently twisted, thanks to which the yarn has antibacterial and self-cleaning properties. It does not absorb sweat or perfume odors, or even unpleasant odors from the environment, such as cigarette smoke. Unlike synthetics such as polyester.
The advantage of merino fiber is that dust and dirt do not stick to it because it is resistant to electrostatic forces, which is due to its structure.
Regardless of the thickness of the knit, it ensures good breathability. This is due to the scales covering the fibers, which create mini holes through which air is exchanged and moisture is removed.
The advantage of merino clothing is that it is fire-resistant and will not stick to the skin if it comes into contact with it.
Merino wool has a natural UPF filter, which provides complete protection against harmful solar radiation.
It has a huge advantage over traditional carded wool, namely it does not scratch and is hypoallergenic.
It is extremely soft, making it friendly to allergy sufferers. Perfectly regulates body temperature and removes excess moisture.
It absorbs it, and yet it does not cool you like e.g. cotton, but still warms the body.
Clothing and underwear made of wool is silky, soft and extremely pleasant to the touch, it is a material for absolutely everyone, and clothing made of it is comfortable and high-quality.

Where does merino wool come from?

Merino wool is an excellent quality raw material coming from a unique breed of sheep originating from Asia. In the 12th century it was brought to the Iberian Peninsula. In the 17th century it was spread throughout Europe.
The largest population occurs in the Australian Alps and New Zealand, but they are also bred with great success in Argentina, Uruguay, South Africa and the USA. It is obtained twice a year.
The fleece is white, strongly crimped and thin. These features make merino wool conquer the clothing market.
It has many advantages, it is a valuable and unique material, and the clothing made of it perfectly insulates, warms and does not cause allergic reactions. It's safe to say that it is a completely super-comfortable product.

How to care for merino wool clothes

Every natural material is delicate and I suggest treating it as such. Especially knitted fabrics, which are quite loose in their structure, are easily damaged (felted). Despite the labels informing that it can be washed in a washing machine, I recommend hand washing.
The material wool does not like water. Improper washing (too frequent and with the addition of detergents) deprives the yarn of lanolin, a substance that naturally protects it and maintains all the advantages of wool that I wrote about above.
Wash your clothes as little as possible and air them outdoors instead. If it gets dirty, wash the dirty area by rubbing it lightly. Wash in water not exceeding 30 degrees (do not soak!!!), knead slightly and squeeze.
Lay flat, away from heat sources. If you have a dryer, you can use it (your clothes were already there before you bought it) with a special program for knitwear (drying in a basket).
Use preparations with lanolin for washing.
